Classic Campaign – Mission 25: Rivals!

The greatest rivalry of all time?

Mission Strategy

This is the secret final mission. It is unlocked by beating every other mission in the Advance Wars 1 campaign. Once you beat Mission 24, you unlock all of the other missions in the other paths of the campaign. You can tell which missions that you have not beaten because they will be represented by a white flag.

This mission is against Eagle, the air unit specialist. His air units all deal increased damage and use less fuel per day, keeping them in the air longer. His naval units are weak, but this weakness never matters in the maps you face Eagle in since he never has sea units.

Eagle’s CO Power is one of the strongest in the game, giving all of his non-troop units an additional turn. However, during this extra turn, his units deal less damage and take increased damage. These debuffs continue into his opponents next turn, since his CO Power is still considered active then.

This mission plays a lot like a War Room mission. You start with very few units, and a lot of the map is neutral. Eagle starts in a much stronger position and will quickly capture the central Airport and Bases with his initial Infantry.

HQ Capture: If you dominate the sky, you can get a Transport Copter to Eagle’s HQ relatively easily. Once there, you can use your air units to surround your capturer and keep it protected.

For this strategy, the central airport should be your first goal. You can either capture it yourself or position Fighters near it to destroy Eagle’s air units as soon as he makes them. If you do choose to capture it, Eagle will start making his air units back near his HQ instead. Air units near his HQ are more likely to be defended by enemy Anti-Air and Missiles.

Push the north and south ground paths as far as you can, but focus most of your income on reinforcing your air force. Don’t be afraid to retreat your ground forces if needed, but try not to lose City income if you can.

Defeat All Enemies: If you want to defeat all of Eagle’s forces, you’ll need to aim for a more balanced army. Keep your air units near your ground forces so that they can support them. Start building up a death ball to the north and south of Rockets and Missiles, with a Medium Tank up front, and move them slowly toward Eagle’s HQ. Capture properties as you pass by them.

Support your ground units with Fighters to help intercept enemy Bombers and Battle Copters. If the enemy starts building up their own Fighters, use your ground units to create a wall and protect your Fighters.

Keep your units topped off and healthy. As Andy, low health units have a lot of value since you can heal them up with his CO Power. By the time your units reach Eagle’s HQ, you’ll have built up such a large army that Eagle’s forces won’t stand a chance.
