Classic Campaign – Mission 19M: Naval Clash! (Max)

Max battle against the clock to win big before Drake gets bailed out.

Mission Strategy

For all of the Green Earth maps, you will be able to choose between all three of the Orange Star COs. Each CO has an entirely different map. Unlike the original game, you do not need to do certain missions as certain COs to unlock Drake and Eagle. Both Green Earth COs are unlocked by beating the missions with any CO.

This is the second battle against Drake, the navy specialist. Not only are his sea units strong, they also have +1 movement range and +2 stars of defense. His CO Power does 1 damage to all enemies (but cannot kill) and removes half of their current fuel. All of his units also gain +10% defense during his CO Power.

This mission has an additional failure condition. If you take more than 15 Days to complete the mission, you will automatically lose. This is not a very tight time window, especially as Max who is incentivized to rush the enemy with direct-fire units.

HQ Capture: Drake’s HQ does not have any Beaches near it, so you won’t be able to use your Landers to drop Infantry and Mechs close by. Instead, you’ll have to advance your APC, keeping it safe with your other land units. The battle at sea is not too important for this strategy, but be aware that Drake has a Battleship up north near his HQ.

Drake will keep one Tank near his HQ that will not move until it sees something to attack. Once your APC has dropped off your capturer, remember that the AI loves to target APCs. Once you start the capture, the AI will prioritize the capturer, but on that drop turn your APC is a great distraction. Make sure the enemy can see it if they can also see your capturer.

Defeat All Enemies: The sea battle is not too tough, but is important. If you can keep your Battleship up, you can use it to support your ground forces as they progress. Drake has only one Submarine for your Cruiser to deal with. After that, your Cruiser can be used to soak Battleship shots. Drake has three Battleships that are a huge threat to your land forces, one north, one south, and one in the middle.

You can chose to split your forces between the north landing beach and the southern path. This will split Drake’s forces, most of which will go east. His west forces will be two Tanks and a Rocket, which may be tough to deal with if your west force is small.

If you keep your units together and push all of them to the east side, Drake will redirect his western units to meet you. A concentrated push is likely the better option, as your Recon will give you better spotting capabilities than Drake. With his limited vision, you can keep some of your units hidden. You can also focus your naval forces on the south to start and then move along with your land forces.


Turn by Turn Walkthrough

Day 1

  • Attack the enemy Battleship with your west Submarine
  • Load your north Mech into your APC
  • Advance your APC, Medium Tank, both Tanks, Recon, Cruiser, other Submarine (Diving it), and Battleship

Day 2

  • Advance your Recon
  • Destroy the enemy Tank with your Medium Tank from the east
  • Advance your Mech to spot the enemy Submarine
  • Attack the enemy Submarine with your Cruiser
  • Attack the south enemy Battleship with your south submerged Submarine
  • Advance your Tanks, APC, Battleship, and north Submarine, Diving it

Day 3

  • Activate Max’s CO Power
  • Attack the enemy Cruiser with your Battleship
  • Attack the north enemy Battleship with your north Submarine from the west
  • Destroy the south enemy Battleship with your south Submarine
  • Destroy the enemy Medium Tank with your Medium Tank from the north
  • Advance your south Tank to spot the enemy Mech
  • Destroy the enemy Mech with your other Tank
  • Advance your APC

Day 4

  • Destroy the enemy Cruiser with your Battleship
  • Destroy the north enemy Battleship with your north Submarine
  • Advance your north Tank to spot the enemy Rockets
  • Destroy the enemy Tank with your Medium Tank
  • Destroy the enemy Rockets with your other Tank
  • Advance your APC

Day 5

  • Attack the east uninjured enemy Tank with your Medium Tank
  • Attack the other enemy Tank with your Tank
  • Advance your APC, dropping the Mech north

Day 6

  • Start capturing the enemy HQ with your north Mech
  • Destroy the south enemy Tank with your Medium Tank
  • Destroy the north enemy Tank with your Tank

Day 7

  • Finish capturing the enemy HQ
