Classic Campaign – Mission 18A: Captain Drake! (Andy)

Andy must capture properties before Drake washes ashore to claim victory.

Mission Strategy

For all of the Green Earth maps, you will be able to choose between all three of the Orange Star COs. Each CO has an entirely different map. Unlike the original game, you do not need to do certain missions as certain COs to unlock Drake and Eagle. Both Green Earth COs are unlocked by beating the missions with any CO.

This is the first battle against Drake, the navy specialist. Not only are his sea units strong, they also have +1 movement range and +2 stars of defense. His CO Power does 1 damage to all enemies (but cannot kill) and removes half of their current fuel. All of his units also gain +10% defense during his CO Power.

This map has an additional victory condition. To win, either army just needs to capture 12 properties.

Andy is a great counter for Drake, especially on this map that prioritizes City capture. Try to save Andy’s CO Power for after Drake uses his so that you can heal up the damage and finish City captures quicker.

Drake has two Medium Tanks defending his HQ. Neither will move unless there is an enemy unit that they can attack. You won’t need to trigger either of them to capture the required properties.

Capture 12 Properties: This is the easiest and intended way to win this mission. To win, you will need to capture all but one of the Cities that start as neutral on the map. This means you’ll need a presence to the south, the center, and the east.

Your land forces can cross your Bridge to win the south fight and block Drake’s ground units from crossing his Bridge. Use a Medium Tank or Tank wall to block for your indirect-fire units. Reinforce your army as needed to push Drake back.

For the central island and the east corner, you will need to use your Lander. If you wait one turn before landing to the east, Drake will only send only one Infantry that way. Be careful of landing early on the central island, as Drake’s Battleship will be able to attack almost every tile of it.

HQ Capture & Defeat All Enemies: While possible, either of these strategies will likely take longer than simply capturing the 12 properties. If you do lose your Lander and can’t capture the central island, you will likely need to capture Drake’s HQ instead since you cannot build another Lander.

The main strategy is to hold the Bridge. Advance your Medium Tank and Tank to hold the front line, and back them up with your Artillery and Rockets. Reinforce as needed as you push Drake’s forces back to his HQ.

Once there, you should be able to clear out the remainder of his forces or may be able to slip an Infantry in and protect it by surrounding it. Remember that you can stop the enemy from making units at their Bases by putting your units on top of the tile.


Turn by Turn Walkthrough

  • The weather in this map is random:
    • Rain may effect AI choices
    • Snow will almost certainly change things
  • If you get either and it throws off the strategy, you can still likely recover:
    • Send Infantry (or Mechs) to the neutral Cities in the order shown
    • Block the south bridge
    • Save Andy’s CO Power to counter Drake’s CO Power
    • Finish capturing the 12 properties

Day 1

  • Advance your Submarines, Diving both of them
  • Advance your Medium Tank, Artillery, and Rockets
  • Position your APC
  • Build two Infantry at your Bases

Day 2

  • Destroy the enemy Submarine with both of your Submarines
  • Advance your Medium Tank, Rockets, and Artillery
  • Load your new west Infantry into your APC
  • Advance your APC
  • Load your other new Infantry into your Lander
  • Advance your Lander, dropping the Infantry to the east or north
  • Build two Infantry at your Bases

Day 3

  • Destroy the enemy Tank with your Rockets
  • Attack the enemy Rockets with your Medium Tank
  • Advance your Artillery and APC, dropping the Infantry onto the City
  • Attack the enemy Battleship with both of your Submarines
  • Start capturing the north east neutral City with your north east Infantry
  • Advance your Lander
  • Start capturing the north west neutral City with one of your new Infantry
  • Load your other new Infantry into your Lander
  • Make one more Infantry at your either of your Bases

Day 4

  • Load your new Infantry into your Lander
  • Advance your Lander, dropping your two Infantry onto the Plain and City
  • Attack the enemy Tank with your Artillery
  • Retreat your Medium Tank
  • Start capturing the south west neutral City with your south west Infantry
  • Destroy the enemy Battleship with your injured Submarine
  • Finish capturing Cities with your other two Infantry
  • For Power Rating:
    • Advance your other Submarine

Day 5

  • Attack the south enemy Infantry with your Rockets
  • Attack the enemy Artillery with your Artillery
  • Finish capturing the City with your south west Infantry
  • Start capturing the west neutral City on the center island with one of your Infantry
  • Start capturing the unoccupied enemy City on the center island with your other Infantry
  • Start capturing the other north west City with your north west Infantry
  • Start capturing the other north east City with your north east Infantry
  • For Power Rating:
    • Attack one of the enemy Landers with your uninjured Submarine

Day 6

  • Activate Andy’s CO Power to heal your Infantry back after Drake’s CO Power
  • Finish capturing all 4 properties
  • Destroy the south enemy Infantry with your Rockets
  • Start capturing the south west neutral city with your south west Infantry
  • For Power Rating:
    • Destroy the injured enemy Lander with your Submarine

Day 7

  • Finish capturing the south west City
  • Start capturing the unoccupied central island enemy City

Day 8

  • Finish capturing the central enemy City
