The fate of Cosmo Land hangs in the balance.
Mission Strategy
This is a tough mission. In this battle you will face the real Sturm. Unlike the previous fight, Sturm has access to his incredibly powerful CO Power. This version of his CO Power is stronger than the playable version of him.
Sturm’s CO Power will deal up to 8 damage (can’t kill) to all units in a star pattern with a five tile diameter (13 tiles in total). The target of this meteor will be the spot where it will deal the most damage based on the value of the units hit. For instance, a full health Tank will count for 7000 points, but a half health Tank will count for 3500. Sturm’s units can be damaged too. Every one of Sturm’s units that the meteor would hit count negatively toward the score.
This mission is made significantly easier if you can get the meteor to land where you want it to. Try to group up units in your backline to offer a high value meteor target. Move your front line units as close as you can to the enemy forces to have Sturm’s units cancel out the meteor calculation of your units.
If you are looking to maximize your final score, know that whichever CO gets the final turn (the one that shows up on the score screen) is the only one who counts for score.
- Power Goal: 6 (only counts the CO you finished the mission with)
HQ Capture: HQ capture is not likely as all of Sturm’s forces are being created directly next to his HQ. You may be able to cheese the fight by bringing Sami as Green Earth. Keep the Orange Star forces back and let Sturm capture the central Airport and Base. Set up indirect-fire units to hit these production facilities. This may cripple Sturm’s production back at his base enough to sneak in an HQ capture.
Your goal would be to sweep in with multiple air units. Drop at least one of Sami’s Mechs on the HQ, and consider bringing more in extra Transport Copters. The enemy will prioritize Transport Copters over Mechs that are not currently capturing. Once you start the HQ capture, surround the capturing unit with your strongest units to hold the line for one turn. Consider bringing Max as Blue Moon and building Bombers, Fighters, and Battle Copters to help with the push and defense.
Defeat All Enemies: Be prepared for a long fight. Just when you feel like you are winning, Sturm will bring down a meteor on your main force, severely crippling you. Generally, the Orange Star army will take most of the damage from Sturm’s units, giving the west and east COs a chance to flank. A great general strategy is to spam Mechs or Infantry with Andy’s Orange Star forces to slowly take back ground from Sturm and waste his attacks on low cost units. Be careful not to block your hard hitters if you go with this strategy.
For the west side of the map (Blue Moon), Max and Grit are both great choices depending on your playstyle. Max can cause huge damage with his starting units. Once he captures the Airport, his Bombers, Fighters, and Battle Copters can quickly take over the sky. Grit is more focused on sustained damage. Get as many Rockets set up along the west Mountains as you can. Use an Orange Star Mech/Infantry rush as a wall. Prioritize capturing the north neutral Base instead of the Airport to produce more Rockets and Missiles.
For the east side of the map (Green Earth or Gold Comet), Kanbei and Eagle are the top choices. Both have very strong starting units. If positioned correctly, these forces can also consistently soak the first meteor. As Kanbei, capture the north neutral Airport and start producing Battle Copters (or Bombers if you can afford them). Try to make one Fighter as well to help take down priority targets like enemy Bombers. As Eagle, go for much the same strategy as Kanbei. The big difference is Eagle’s CO Power. Consider saving it until you have a decent sized force and won’t contribute to Sturm’s CO Power (After it’s already charged or after he used it last turn).
Slowly take over every City you can as you push north. The Orange Star Mech/Infantry rush will help with this. Eventually you will cripple Sturm’s economy enough to overcome his punishing CO Power.
